"Abusive and scandalous", Rama calls for freeing up public spaces
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted harshly to the phenomenon of placing beams and parking fees in the spaces between buildings, describing this practice as abusive and scandalous.

In a Facebook post, Rama stated that no one has the right to appropriate spaces that are a common part of the community and benefit financially from them.

Rama:  It is as much private property as the stairs of a building or the elevators of buildings that belong to that community.

No one has more rights over the land around the palace and over the space between the palaces than each of the residents who are in those palaces.

I call on those who own such assets, from the tycoons who decide to charge residents for parking, in the most abusive and scandalous way, claiming that it is private property... there is no private property as long as it is a space that does not have permission to carry out a certain activity, starting with parking.

You can't put a pole in the city claiming it's your property, to allow the residents to pay you to be the master of their land.

I call on them to start removing these beams and obstacles themselves.
