The "weapon" against superbugs is discovered

From synthetic biology comes 'a weapon' against superbugs. It is the cresomycin molecule, and it has been designed in the laboratory, as it has chemical properties that are impossible to obtain with the current tools.

In the first laboratory tests on guinea pigs, it proved effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas Aaeruginosa.

Of course, it is not yet known if it will have the same effect and safety in humans, but the tests will continue. Currently, there are some pathogenic bacteria that antibiotics are no longer able to fight, and they kill about a million people a year.

The research work was coordinated by Harvard University, with support from the Institute of Public Health, the US National Science Foundation and Boston University, and was published and explained in more detail in the journal "Science".
