Heat wave, Albanians spend record on air conditioners

The scorching heat has made Albanian citizens increase their spending to buy cooling and cooling equipment. To cope with the heat wave that has gripped Albania, many Albanians have turned to home electronics businesses, with the aim of buying air conditioners and various fans.

This increase in demand from citizens has translated into greater profits for businesses dealing with the trading of these devices. Businesses have reported a record sale of air conditioners during these hot summer days and according to them, the increased interest from customers has not been reflected in their price increases.

High temperatures have turned air conditioning from a luxury to a necessity. Compared to the 2011 CENSUS data, the 2023 census has shown a 27.5% increase in households that have installed air conditioners. However, in addition to the high cost of purchasing an air conditioner, the latter also has a high cost in terms of electricity. According to the latest data available from the Energy Regulatory Authority, on average 37% of a household's annual energy consumption goes to space cooling and heating alone.
