In Norway, a golden eagle attacked a 20-month-old girl who was playing in her family's backyard. The bird of prey suddenly pounced on her, striking her with its talons.

The mother and a neighbor, alarmed by the little girl's cries, started to hit the bird of prey to save the girl. But in the end it took the intervention of the forest ranger. The girl was taken to the hospital: her condition does not appear to be serious, but the accident was traumatic for the family and the community.

"The eagle appeared out of nowhere and kidnapped our youngest daughter," the father told Norwegian media. "The mother immediately jumped to help her and tried to push the eagle away, but she had to fight to free our daughter," added the father. The animal was particularly aggressive and kept coming back as the woman tried to protect the little girl and get away.

Then a neighbor came to her aid and tried to drive the predatory bird away with a stick, but was unable to do so due to the persistence of the eagle, which seems to have seen the little girl as prey. In the end, a forest ranger, Per Kare Vinterdal, arrived and managed to stop the animal only by killing it. The little girl was treated at the hospital. The raptor's talons left him with several scratches on his face and wounds: one of them, on the back of his neck, which required several stitches. The doctors who treated the little girl found that her condition was not serious. However, strong fears remain.

The case has caused a public debate in Norway, where it is reported that within five days there have been four attacks by golden eagles. The aggressiveness shown by the eagle towards a human is unusual for its species.

Such attacks are extremely rare. “The eagle was determined and kept coming back despite efforts to drive it away,” commented the park ranger. The large bird of prey can attack a person only if it feels threatened. However, in this case it is not yet clear what may have triggered this defense mechanism.
