The terrifying Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore took place through a terrifying area called the Intertropical Convergence.
This flight had a fatal outcome due to severe turbulence which caused the plane to fall about 6 thousand meters in just three minutes. This air accident took the life of a 73-year-old man who jumped about 37,000 meters above the Indian Ocean. In addition, 30 people were injured from this accident, seven of whom are in critical condition.
The area around the Bay of Bengal is known as a turbulence area, pilots know this but the chances of avoiding this area for flying are very few. The area called the "Intertropical Convergence" is known for large and infamous storms. According to "Dailystar", storms often appear on the pilots' screens, but it is often impossible to completely ignore them, as they extend over 50 nautical miles.
This area is known more by sailors who are also affected by this thing. They encounter a problem with the calm air of the area which forces them to have very slow sailing and keeps the ships stuck for days at sea.
Sailors call this the "sleeping zone" and this zone is located very close to the equator and appears more like a band of clouds and storms formed and the place where the northern and southern winds meet. The hot sun in this area and the warm sea warm the air, making it lively and rising until it reaches a height where it cools down again very quickly.
This leads to a relentless stream of storms and also the seasonal changes in this location highlight the wet as well as dry seasons of these tropical regions. This country, the ITCZ, has been known for these storms since 2009 when an Air France plane crashed and killed 228 people on board traveling from Paris to Rio de Janeiro.
