Hackers steal a staggering $1.5 billion worth of digital currency. According to Dubai authorities, this is the largest theft in history.
Foreign media reported that the hacker accessed a bitcoin wallet and managed to transfer the entire amount of money to an as-yet unidentified account.
Dubai-based firm Bybit, which has more than 60 million users worldwide, said no other wallets were affected and that withdrawals were continuing normally.
"Baybit is vigilant even if this huge loss is not recovered, all other customers' assets are backed one by one. We can cover the loss," the company's boss said in a post on "X".
He also added that after this major theft, according to him the largest in history, the company received 350 thousand requests from users to withdraw money from their accounts. All requests have been approved and the company is proceeding to withdraw money from users.
This is being called the largest theft of its kind, as it breaks the previous record where $620 million was stolen from Ronin Network in 2022.
