The son of notorious drug lord Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán has escaped through a tunnel, just like his father.
41-year-old Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, the eldest of El Chapo's children, evaded arrest in dramatic circumstances during a mega joint military and police operation in Culiacán, Mexico on Wednesday.
Iván Archivaldo is the leader of Los Chapitos, a faction of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, and is on the list of the most wanted drug traffickers in the United States. The US government has offered a $10 million reward for any information leading to Ivan's arrest.
It is reported that Iván Archivaldo escaped from his home in Tierra Blanca through a tunnel with his accomplices, José Ángel Canobbio Inzunza, Kevin Alonso Gil Acosta, José Alonso Acosta López and Gustavo Acosta López.
Mexican Army and National Guard helicopters searched the entire area for hours, but without success.
The leader of Los Chapitos is said to be in a critical situation regarding his cartel. Two of his brothers have been arrested in recent years and are in prison in the US.

This escape, foreign media have compared to that of his father, 10 years earlier. On July 11, 2015, El Chapo escaped from Mexico's Altiplano prison through a secretly built 2.4 km tunnel. Equipped with lighting and ventilation, the tunnel from the shower area of his cell led to a small house nearby. This was El Chapo's second escape from prison after a previous successful attempt in 2001. He was recaptured in January 2016 and later extradited to the United States, where he is now serving a life sentence.
Meanwhile, Ivan is wanted by US authorities in connection with an Arizona investigation into the Sinaloa cartel. Investigators say he and his three brothers "inherited" El Chapo's drug trafficking network.
