Blendi Fevziu and Armand Shkullaku

Blendi Fevziu spoke about some of the important moments of his life, during an interview with Ylli Rakip in the show "The Unexposed".

Fevziu also shared the first time he went abroad with the journalist Armand Shkullaku, after the fall of the dictatorship, describing a scene in Rome, where they tried to open the canned fish they had taken with them and people looked at them with surprise.

The journalist said that Albania has made huge steps forward, comparing it to the 90s.

Excerpts from the conversation:

Ylli Rakipi: We have lived in two times, in communism and in the new system. It is a strange life, where one is faced with a great difficulty. Maybe we have been able to survive and have done enough, not just by the two of us, but by the people of this country?

Blendi Fevziu: The transformation of Albania is extraordinary. In order to understand the transformation of Albania, even we cannot calculate it because even memory leaves us in the mud. The stability government was established in May 1991. Ramiz Alia called the ministers for the oath and after the oath they each took a glass of wine. He said to the ministers, now you have to find a country that supports us with lek. What did they say? Yes, he said, that's how we are kept. We were held by Italy, the Yugoslavs, the Russians, the Chinese. When we broke up with the Chinese we ate it. So you have to find a place to hold us. So the philosophy of a country with 80 years of history was find someone to keep us.

Today, with as much money as we have, we try to support ourselves.

We come from an absurd time. My first time out was shocking. I went to Rome with Armand Shkullak. We got the visas, we got a loan to pay for the tickets. The family called me and said I have my entire life savings of $50. Shukulaku had 50 dollars and 10 thousand lire. He had worked as a waiter for two weeks.

We flew to Rome, we were met by Mesila Doda at the airport who had left by ship.

He met us. The next day we left, we had nowhere to go. We went to St. Peter's and stayed all day, we had taken some canned goods with us. We went to ask about food, it was very expensive. The $50 was gone with one lunch. We got canned fish from the time of Vlora. Shkullak had a knife that his father had made for him at the Partizani plant. He had taken it with him, but we didn't have a stone to use a knife to open the can.

After we found a stone, when we were opening the can, we looked up and there were over 200 tourists, because they thought we were doing some trick. When the can was opened we took the fish and ate it and they all left. Then we couldn't find water.

When the automatic doors opened in a hotel, we ran away. We didn't know how to use the elevator... When I saw the first chocolate shop...

The Italians could not understand what kind of people this was, they had seen ships with 30,000 people and people jumping from the ship, children, pregnant women, all of whom said you keep us.

So when you start from this situation, the progress we have made is huge.
