The life-size plaster cast of Princess Diana's left hand is expected to sell for £40,000 when it goes on sale on Tuesday. A plaster left hand of the Princess, which also has her ring, will be auctioned at Reeman Dansie of Essex.

The 24-centimeter-long hand was created by renowned Croatian sculptor Oscar Nemon shortly before he passed away in 1985, while Diana cared for him.

Auctioneers said the piece was extremely rare and believed to be unique.

Portfolio The distinguished sculptor Nemon's portfolio included sculptures of other members of the British royal family such as the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

The sculptor, who had moved to England in 1936, was also given a studio at St James's Palace in London, where Diana's hand in plaster was made.

Managing Director of Reeman Dansie, James Grinter, called this creation a "subtle beauty".

"It has a wonderful presence actually," he told CNN.

The life-like creation of Oscar Nemon previously belonged to Nemon's assistant, sculptor Karin Churchill, who was also her actress, the auction house said in its description.

Molds are usually made by placing something, in this case Diana's left hand, into a liquid silicone bath, which forms a mold. The mold is then filled with plaster, which, when it hardens, is poured.
