Meritoni and Bardhi

Invited to "Are You Normal?" by Meriton Mjekiqi, it was Bardhi, who told the untold stories from his new life as a father, to his career and the difficulties he has encountered...

Meritoni: How does it feel to be a father?

Bardhi: I thought I would be much more unprepared, the first two weeks were a little more difficult, adapting to a child at home. 27 years without children, and now with a child who has his own demands. But we had a great time, those first two weeks we learned what to do. I had a little problem, for example when she was sleeping like an angel, I put my finger to her nose to see if she was breathing (laughs). Until we got used to it. I was also in the hall when she was born. I thought I was more of a coward, but no. Now when I go out to the studio, I can't wait to get home.

Meritoni: Did you have to change your lifestyle after giving birth to Neas?

Bardhi: In some things, yes. If I used to go out, now I don't go out, I'd rather stay with my daughter than enjoy myself. But I still go to the studio the same way. Every day I spend 3 to 6 hours in the studio. It's working hours, even if I only write 2 songs in those 6 hours, but I know I've worked.

Meritoni: What is the meaning of the girl's name, Nea?

Bardhi: The idea was originally Sara's. We had a list of names that we liked. In Greek it means "new", in Arabic it means "fruitful gift of God", so we connected it.

Meritoni: Would you have liked it more to have a girl or a boy?

Bardhi: I used to be happy that my first child would be a boy. But when Sara gave me the pregnancy test, I thought it was a girl. I don't know why.

Meritoni: How was your experience on "Big Brother VIP"?

Bardhi: For me it was very good. It was a feeling that I had never experienced before and I don't think I will experience it again. I don't think I would go back, I didn't really find myself. For everyone, it has to be an ideal time psychologically to go there, you have to be very prepared, I was an amateur because I hadn't seen "Big Brother" before. People who had studied had come there. Professionally, I canceled 13-14 concerts before I went there. They probably made more money than the prize I could have won, but I enjoyed trying it as an experience. I am grateful that I went there, I am grateful to the people who told me to go there, because I found the man of my life, I had children, I started a family, my life completely changed. At first it wasn't my decision, someone else was happy for me to go there. I have heard people telling me that 'go there because you have to, they serve you, it's an advertisement'. But deep down I just wanted to show who I am and that's it. I didn't go in with any plan, I just wanted to test myself in isolation, for the public to see what kind of person I am. I had a lot of difficult moments, the first week I wanted to go out every day, I couldn't find myself.

Meritoni: How is your relationship with music now?

Bardhi: Today I'm working hard on new projects. I've made 10 songs, I have them ready.

Meritoni: How is your relationship with Jetmir Agaj (former manager)?

Bardhi: We have no relationship, we severed relations at that time and left them where they were. We did not separate with knives, we separated with words. It was an agreement between us at that time that we agreed with each other, we parted ways, but I believe it was for the good of all of us.

Deserve it: The song "Çikës tem", a dedication, has received some comments saying that you are being victimized...

Bardhi : We have an audience that, when they don't like someone, always curses them no matter what they do. But it's a very small percentage and life goes on even after that. I was not victimized at any point in that song. The moment I made the song, I was 101% real. At that time, I felt that way, another thing is that I released the song in September, after working all summer. It wasn't victimization, I opened my heart to the audience, something that not even 10% of the entertainment industry does. I also waited for the comments, because when I showed the song to Sara and her family, they told me not to release it, because it shows a weak point. But I wanted to release it, share it with the audience, so that my daughter also has motivation that you can fall in life, you can get up, but it's okay.

Meritoni: Have you ever wanted to quit music altogether?

Bardhi: Yes. I was in the middle of a business offer in Tirana, I wanted to open a new business, with clothes. In music, I had no right to release songs on YouTube, nor to go to concerts. I was thinking about quitting music and doing this, because music was not bringing me any benefit, it was getting worse and worse, I didn't see a solution. I thought about quitting music for a few days, but I couldn't decide. When I went to the studio, I said I couldn't quit. I didn't start the business at all, I said I was continuing with music.

Meritoni: Which of the collaborations with artists you've done would you like to revisit?

Bardhi: The collaboration with Elvana. I was at a very critical moment at the time and she agreed to do a duet with me, while many other artists did not.

Meritoni: Who are the three best rappers in your opinion?

Bardhi: Unikkatil, Azet and Noizy. I grew up with Unikkatil, I still listen to his songs, I still listen to his lyrics, if the pop music scene were fans of someone, we are his fans. I think he is unattainable. Azet, not because I have a friend, not because he has supported me my entire career, but the way an Albanian has turned the German market upside down, he has been. Noizy, since 2008-2009 when I first heard him, has brought something different. I liked Noizy's consistency.
