Brad Arnold , the lead singer of the Grammy-nominated American rock band 3 Doors Down , has died at the age of 47, a few months after publicly announcing that he had been diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer.
The news was confirmed on Saturday by the band itself through a statement, which said that Arnold " passed away surrounded by his loved ones, in his sleep, after a courageous battle with cancer ."
3 Doors Down formed in 1995 in Mississippi and four years later earned a Grammy nomination for their hit “Kryptonite,” a song Arnold wrote at age 15 during math class. Their debut album, “The Better Life,” sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
Another Grammy nomination came in 2003 with the song "When I'm Gone," as the band became one of the most beloved names in alternative rock in the early 2000s. In total, 3 Doors Down released six albums, the latest being "Us and the Night" in 2016.
