Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is ready to sign a minerals and security agreement with the United States and work under the "strong leadership" of President Donald Trump.
While acknowledging that his meeting with President Donald Trump "didn't go as well as it should have," Zelensky reiterated Ukraine's commitment to peace and praised Trump for supplying his military with Javelins.
"I would like to reiterate Ukraine's commitment to peace. None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. No one wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I are ready to work under the strong leadership of President Trump to achieve a peace that lasts."
"We are ready to work quickly to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and a ceasefire in the sky - a ban on missiles, long-range drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure - and a ceasefire at sea immediately, if Russia does the same. Then we want to move very quickly through all the next stages and work with the US to agree on a strong final agreement," Zelensky said in a post on the social network "X".
"We truly appreciate how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump gave Ukraine Javelins. We are grateful for that.
Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go as it should have. It is unfortunate that it happened this way. It is time to set things right. We wish that future cooperation and communication will be constructive.
"Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step towards greater security and solid security guarantees, and I really hope that it will work effectively," Zelensky concluded.
