Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, has admitted to his motive for the crime in a text message exchange that said the act was motivated by hate. “Some types of hate are non-negotiable,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement released during a tense Senate hearing.

According to Patel, Robinson had previously discussed the possibility of killing Kirk and later confirmed it in text messages.

"There were text messages that clearly indicated that he intended to kill Charlie Kirk and that he would do it," the FBI director said in an interview with Fox News.

The FBI investigation involved extensive interviews and forensic evidence, with Robinson's DNA found to match the towel used to wrap the murder weapon. According to Patel, the 22-year-old "essentially confessed to the murder during questioning."

Robinson's arrest was carried out just 44 hours after the incident, after his father turned him in to the police himself, which has caused strong reactions and criticism of the FBI's delay and management of the investigation.

Christopher Rufo, a representative of the Manhattan Institute, said: “It’s time for Republicans to consider whether Kash Patel is the right person to lead the FBI.” Meanwhile, writer Michael Brendan Dougherty quipped that “the killer’s father does all the work, then the FBI goes out to celebrate.”

This event highlights tensions and debates over the FBI's role and management of investigations in a divided and heated political climate.
