Luxembourg also plans to recognize Palestine as a state as early as September this year, broadcaster RTL reported, citing Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel.
The final decision will be made at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to the statement. The 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly opened in New York on September 9.
As is tradition, it will include a week-long high-level session, with general debates taking place from 23 to 27 September.
Palestine is recognized by 147 countries. In 2024, the United States vetoed Palestine's full membership in the United Nations. As of 2024, Palestine has been recognized by 10 countries, including Ireland, Norway, Spain, and Armenia.
