US attacks Venezuelan drug cartel boat

US forces today struck a Venezuelan drug cartel ship heading towards the United States. US President Donald Trump himself announced the action through a post on the Truth Social platform.

The US president said three people on board were killed, adding that the operation was carried out in international waters.

"The attack was launched while these confirmed Venezuelan narco-terrorists were in international waters transporting drugs to the United States," Trump wrote in his tweet.

He reiterated that drug cartels represent "a threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, as well as to vital American interests."

His post was accompanied by a 27-second video showing the moment the boat was hit, which can be seen burning after the explosion.

Earlier this month, US forces struck a speedboat suspected of carrying drugs, killing 11 people on board, who were identified as members of the Tren de Aragua gang, but to whom Caracas denied any connection.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro denounced the "aggressive behavior" of the United States, clarifying that "this is not a matter of tension" between the two countries, but military aggression by Washington.

Maduro added that there is no communication between the two governments, placing all the blame on the White House.
