Jim Lovell

Jim Lovell, NASA astronaut and commander of the Apollo 13 space mission in 1970, has died at the age of 97.

Lovell and the other two astronauts, Fred Hayes and Jack Swigert, were unable to land on the moon due to an incident. Thanks to the heroic efforts of NASA engineers, they managed to return to Earth without a problem.

"Houston, we've encountered a problem," was Swigert's famous statement at the Houston control center.

Their story was made into a movie in 1995. Lovell was played by well-known Hollywood actor, Tom Hanks.

In a post on X, NASA wrote that spacecraft veteran Lovell "inspired millions of people. His courage under pressure helped open our way to the Moon and further a journey that continues to this day."
