Turkey is testing the waters to create a new model of mediation to resolve the Israel-Palestine crisis. It aims to include regional and western states as guarantors and move towards a long-term solution based on the two-state principle.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Monday that Turkey has two priorities regarding the reactivated conflict: protecting civilians and humanitarian aid on the one hand, and trying to find a long-term solution on the other.

Fidan said that diplomatic efforts and models so far have not brought results, so the focus will be a new model of mediation.

"We propose a guarantee model as the main idea. The international community must be in a position to push Israel toward a two-state solution. Countries in the region, such as the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, should also be involved," he said.

Turkey itself is expected to take the role of guarantor for Palestine, while other countries may choose Israel. The guarantor must bear responsibility for the implementation of the agreement signed by the parties.

The statement of the head of Turkish diplomacy comes at a moment of intense engagement in the region. He has recently held meetings with counterparts in the US, Russia, Egypt, Qatar and other Muslim countries.
