US President Donald Trump, speaking at the Future Investment Initiative forum in Miami, claimed that the US military operation against Iran was going successfully.

Trump claimed that the US was "destroying Iran."

He also claimed that Iran was "begging to make a deal" amid conflicting reports about negotiations between the two countries to end the conflict.

The event, which is run by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, comes as Iran has targeted Riyadh with missiles and drones, as well as other Middle Eastern countries, as the region continues to be engulfed in war.

Trump praised Saudi Arabia's support, while criticizing NATO countries for what he considered insufficient support for his operation against Iran.

"I am very disappointed with NATO, but I was not disappointed with our allies in the Middle East ," Trump said.

It seems that Trump is not angry with NATO, following the refusal of allied states to send warships to Hormuz, after warning that Washington may not help them in the future if asked for something like that.

"They just weren't there," the White House chief of staff said. "We contribute billions of dollars every year to NATO, hundreds of billions to help them, and we would have always been there for them. But now, based on their actions, I don't think we should, do we?" Trump added.

Since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran a month ago, Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration over what he sees as a lack of support and reluctance to commit forces from Western allies to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for global oil trade.

Six major powers, including Britain, France, Germany and Japan, have said they are ready to contribute appropriately, but have so far taken no concrete steps.

Trump made his strongest comment against the alliance last week, when he called its members cowards and said that NATO was a paper tiger without the US.
