According to a new Reuters poll, support for President Donald Trump has fallen to almost its lowest level since his return to the White House.
Only 35% of Americans approve of his job performance, compared to 47% at the start of his term in January 2025. The decline is largely related to dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living and the way Trump has handled the conflict with Iran.
US and Israeli military strikes on Iran in February disrupted global oil trade, driving up fuel prices by about 50% in the US. This has caused concern among Republican voters, especially ahead of the midterm elections in November.
Only 47% of Republicans support the way Trump is handling the cost of living, while almost as many think he is doing a bad job.
Dissatisfaction within the Republican Party has grown. About 21% of Republicans no longer approve of Trump, compared to just 5% at the start of his term. However, he continues to have strong support for immigration policies, with 82% of Republicans backing him on the issue.
The poll also shows that a majority of Americans do not support military intervention in Iran. Only one in four respondents believe that military action was worth it.
Republican strategists warn that declining voter enthusiasm could negatively impact the upcoming elections.
