Iran has accepted Pakistan's proposal for a two-week ceasefire, paving the way for negotiations with the United States in Islamabad, following intense diplomatic pressure and recent intervention from China.

According to reports from the New York Times, Tehran's decision came after Islamabad's continued efforts and Beijing's call for flexibility, in order to reduce tensions in the region.

The decision was made in a climate of growing concern about the potential economic consequences, especially due to the risk to critical energy infrastructure.

According to three Iranian officials, the ceasefire has been approved by the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Two-week negotiations in Islamabad

The Secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council announced that Tehran will participate in talks with the US side in Islamabad for a two-week period, based exclusively on a 10-point plan.

Negotiations are expected to begin on Friday, April 11, and may be extended by mutual agreement between the parties.

Iranian authorities emphasize that participation in the talks does not automatically mean an end to the war, underlining that a final agreement will only be reached after all the details are determined.

It is also emphasized that the process is taking place in conditions of distrust towards the American side, while citizens are called upon for national unity during this critical period.

10-point plan, the basis of negotiations

Iran claims that the US has accepted the 10-point plan as a basis for negotiations. The main conditions include:

1-Commitment to non-aggression

2-Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz

3-Knowledge of the uranium enrichment program

4-Removal of all primary sanctions

5- Removal of all secondary sanctions

6-Abolition of UN Security Council resolutions

7- Suspension of all Board decisions

8-Payment of compensation to Iran

9-Withdrawal of American forces from the region

10-Ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon

US President Donald Trump has described the plan as a "working basis" for a deal.

At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that if attacks against the country stop, the Iranian armed forces will stop their defensive operations.

For the two-week period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be carried out in coordination with the Iranian armed forces and taking into account technical limitations.
