Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on US President Donald Trump to extend the deadline by 2 weeks "to give diplomacy the opportunity to take its course."
He has also called on Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X, he wrote: “ Diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly, and with the potential to bring concrete results in the near future. To give diplomacy a chance to follow its course, I sincerely request President Trump to extend the deadline by 2 weeks. Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests our Iranian brothers to open the Strait of Hormuz for an appropriate two-week period as a gesture of goodwill. We also call on all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks, so that diplomacy can reach a final conclusion to the war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region.”
The White House has officially confirmed that President Donald Trump has been briefed on Pakistan's latest proposal to extend the official deadline that expires at 2 am.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said the administration is reviewing the request.
"The president has been made aware of the proposal and a response will be forthcoming soon," Leavitt said.
President Donald Trump said his administration is in the midst of difficult, deadline-driven talks with Iran, in which he has threatened to target the country's energy infrastructure.
Today, Trump refused to say how he felt about this blockade.
"I can't tell you, because right now we're in heated negotiations," he told Fox News.
