In the United States, American lawmakers have asked the FBI director for clarifications regarding the former senior FBI official, Charles McGonigal, as part of an investigation that the House of Representatives' Judiciary Committee has initiated against the FBI and the Department of Justice, which Republican lawmakers say have been used as political tools by Democrats against Republicans.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan noted that Mr. McGonigal was instrumental in launching the investigation into former President Trump's ties to Russia.

They point out that Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, for whom Mr McGonigal worked after leaving the FBI, had worked with former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, whose discredited dossier on Mr Trump, according to the letter, played a central role in starting the investigations.

Even the Democratic chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Dick Durbin, has requested by means of a letter to the Attorney General, Merrick Garland and the director of the FBI, Mr. Wray, further information regarding the activities of Mr. McGonigal, starting from the two indictments. , that of New York, for the connections with the Russian oligarch and that of Washington, for the connections with Albania.
