Russia ignores negotiations, massive bombing in Kiev

Russia today carried out one of the largest bombings of Ukrainian infrastructure in recent months, launching 653 drones and 51 missiles overnight.

According to authorities, most were downed, but one of the hits destroyed the railway station in Fastiv, near Kiev, and damaged railway equipment.

The attacks have again targeted the energy sector, hitting facilities in eight regions and causing power outages, writes the BBC.

The UN nuclear agency also reports that the Zaporizhia plant was temporarily left without power, the 11th time since the start of the occupation.

Kiev condemned the attacks as illegal and without military value, while Russia described them as "massive strikes" in response to alleged Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets.

The attacks occurred as trilateral talks between the US and Ukraine on a possible security framework are taking place in Florida, while negotiations with Russia have yet to yield results.

In an interview with India Today on Friday, December 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Ukrainian forces must fully withdraw from Donbas this week, otherwise "Russia will take these territories by force."

Kiev and its European allies believe that the most effective way to deter future Russian aggression is for Ukraine to join NATO or provide strong security guarantees. Russia is categorically opposed to that, while US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he has no intention of allowing Ukraine to join the alliance.
