Republicans closed their convention in Dallas on Thursday, with a speech by Vice President JD Vance and a call from President Trump to vote in the midterm elections on November 3.
Trump led Republican Party members in a symbolic pledge to vote, regardless of whether they are "registered or not."
Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance took center stage with a speech seen as an early test of his prospects for the White House in 2028, according to Reuters.
"Every American, whether they've been here for 10 years or 10 minutes, deserves the sacred legacy of the United States of America. Ladies and gentlemen, this November, let's give it to them. Let's fight for our people. Let's remove the Democrats from power. And let's never forget that America belongs to those who love it, not those who hate it," said JD Vance.
Reuters reports that many Republicans see Vance as the leading candidate to advance the "Make America Great Again" movement.
Some in the crowd chanted "48, 48," suggesting that Vance could become the nation's 48th president in 2028, but the White House's number two said Republicans should first focus on winning the November midterm elections.
Trump has yet to give any signal about who he would support in 2028, although Republicans often speculate whether Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio are in the best position to lead the party after he leaves office.
