Why did Serbia revolt against Albania?

Serbia has reacted strongly against the initiative of the three countries Croatia, Albania and Kosovo to sign a cooperation agreement in the field of defense and engage in joint military operations.

A meeting of the chiefs of general staff of the armies of Albania, Croatia and the commander of the Kosovo Security Forces was held on Wednesday in Shkodra. It was this meeting that provoked a strong reaction from the Serbian Ministry of Defense, which considered it a threat to peace in the region.

The Serbian ministry strongly condemned the trilateral meeting, emphasizing that the military cooperation of these countries presents a factor of pressure and security challenges for Serbia and Serbian citizens in Kosovo, as well as being a threat to peace and stability in the region.

Earlier on January 30, another meeting was held in Zagreb between the directors of defense and armaments policies of the three countries. These meetings were held in light of the memorandum of cooperation in defense and security issues signed by Albania, Kosovo and Croatia on March 18, 2025 in Tirana.

It was Minister Pirro Vengu who, through his post on the social network X, announced that this trilateral meeting for military exercise cooperation will take place in 2026 as part of the agreement signed between the three countries.

"The focus of this cooperation is to strengthen military coordination, field operability and a clearer understanding of the forces of the three countries. A special place is also occupied by joint exercises and addressing security challenges from hybrid threats. This trilateral exercise will be held in full compliance with Euro-Atlantic goals and NATO's strategic concept," Minister Pirro Vengu highlighted.
