The prestigious Wall Street Journal has revealed new details about the US intervention in Venezuela. According to sources, it was the CIA that suggested to President Donald Trump to allow Delcy Rodriguez, the vice president, to take over the country after the capture of Nicolas Maduro.

In a confidential document, the CIA assessed that to maintain immediate stability in Venezuela, it was necessary for power to remain in the hands of people who were part of the current system.

The main reasons for this suggestion were the support of the army, the risk of chaos, and armed resistance.

Rodriguez and other regime loyalists have control over the country's military and elites.

For this reason, the CIA warned that opposition leaders, such as Maria Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez, would find it very difficult to control the country.

According to the report, the opposition would face strong resistance from security forces and criminal organizations that support the old regime.

In short, American intelligence believed that an immediate transfer of power to the opposition would cause a civil war or uncontrollable chaos, so it chose a "middle path" with well-known figures of the regime.
