US President Donald Trump has stated that the US oil industry could launch large-scale operations in Venezuela in less than 18 months, given the "huge amount of money" that US companies would invest, which could be recovered through revenues or reimbursements from the US administration.

In an interview with NBC News, Trump stressed that it would be a "huge investment," but did not give a specific timeline for the costs. According to the president, a Venezuelan oil producer would again be beneficial to the United States because it would help keep energy prices low.

Trump also stated that the oil companies, despite not having been notified in advance of the operation that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro, knew that something was underway and would be ready to intervene.

The president reiterated that his priority remains "fixing" the country and reviving the oil sector, rather than immediately promoting a democratic transition.

Earlier, Trump said that the United States is not at war with Venezuela.

However, Trump did not rule out a second strike and explained that he does not believe congressional approval is necessary.

Regarding the possibility of elections, he explained that there will be no elections in the next 30 days, because it takes time.
