An unusual event was recorded on the beach of Marina di Ragusa, in Sicily, where around 700 thousand euros in cash ended up in the sea after being thrown from a speedboat approaching the Italian Coast Guard.
According to Italian authorities, it all started when the speedboat ran out of fuel near the port of Marina di Ragusa. There were four people on board, while two of them went ashore to get fuel. A man and a minor remained on the boat.
When the Coast Guard approached the vessel, the man on board began throwing bags filled with banknotes into the sea.
The current swept them towards the shore, where holidaymakers waded into the water to collect the money before the area was cordoned off by police. Authorities managed to recover almost the entire amount.
The four people were escorted for questioning, while the speedboat was seized for examination.
