NATO refutes Macron: We have no plans to send troops to Ukraine

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has denied the French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine. In an interview with the Associated Press, he said that the military alliance has no plans to take such a step.

"NATO allies are providing unprecedented support to Ukraine. We've been doing this since 2014 and we've grown after the large-scale invasion. But there are no plans for NATO combat troops on the ground in Ukraine," Stoltenberg said.

Ahead of a trip to Paris on Monday, where senior officials from more than 20 countries discussed options for increasing aid to Ukraine, Slovakia's prime minister, Robert Fico, said some thought was being given to whether a deal would be reached to send troops to Ukraine for help it weather out a full-scale Russian invasion.

Fico said his government is not planning to propose sending Slovak troops, but gave no details on which countries might consider such arrangements, or what the troops would do in Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that he refused to rule out sending ground troops to Ukraine, although he said there was no consensus on the step.
