A meeting between Kosovo and Serbia will be held in Brussels today regarding the abolition of the Serbian dinar. The meeting is mediated by the European Union and the EU mediator Miroslav Lajcak in Brussels will also be present.
Kosovo will be represented at this meeting by the governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo, Ahmet Ismaili. A few days ago, Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi announced that he will not attend this meeting, stating that "the dinar issue is not part of the dialogue".
On the other hand, Serbia will be represented by the chief negotiator for dialogue with Kosovo, Petar Petkovic.
Since February 1, the new Regulation of the Central Bank for Kosovo entered into force, where payments are made only in euros and the Serbian dinar has been removed. The European Union is demanding that the issue of banning the Serbian dinar be resolved through dialogue.
The United States, meanwhile, is demanding that Kosovo postpone the implementation of this decision, as it has argued that it was taken without prior consultation and without being based on the negative impacts on the Serbian population in Kosovo.
