France and the United Kingdom will host a conference of like-minded countries aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

He described the initiative as a "multinational peacekeeping mission."

In a post on X, Macron said the discussions would also address Iran's nuclear capabilities and the situation in Lebanon.

"This strictly defensive mission, separate from the warring parties in the conflict, aims to be deployed as soon as circumstances allow," he said.

Macron added that France was ready to "play its full role."
