US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Kimberly Guilfoyle, the longtime fiancée of his son Donald Trump Jr., to become US ambassador to Greece.
This is Trump's latest pick for the new administration who has close ties to members of his family. Trump announced his intention to nominate Guilfoyle, a former Fox News anchor, on Tuesday night amid picks for other diplomatic and economic roles, including Andrew Ferguson to lead the Federal Trade Commission.
Guilfoyle's choice to serve as ambassador thousands of miles away from the US comes at a time when American media are reporting that his son Donald Trump Jr. has ended his engagement and is pictured with another girl named Bettina Anderson.
Trump Jr. himself congratulated his fiancée on her selection, although on social media this congratulation was commented on as a "perfect breakup letter."
"I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and has always wanted to serve the country as an ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First," he wrote.
