The second day of the search for the "Bayesian", the luxury sailing yacht sunk in the Palermo area. There is still no trace of the six people who went missing, while the cook was found dead, and 15 were rescued.

According to the latest reports, the president of the famous American investment bank Morgan Stanley International, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife are among the missing. They are said to be close friends with Mike Lynch, owner of the ship and founder of Autonomy, who is also missing.

There is speculation that bodies may be trapped in the wreckage of the yacht. In the late evening of August 19, divers managed to enter, but could not go further due to the presence of furniture that obstructed passage.

Who are the missing
The missing from the tragedy that happened in the sea of Palermo are very prominent figures in the business world. It soon became known that Mike Lynch, a British technology tycoon, was on board the sailing vessel. He also owes his fortune to the Autonomy software company he co-founded in Cambridge in 1996. Autonomy was sold to IT giant Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for $11 billion. A deal which, however, cost Lynch a long legal battle, accused of fraud in connection with the sale to HP. Lynch was even extradited to the United States in 2022 to face trial which culminated last June in his acquittal.

Jonathan Bloomer is president of the famous American investment bank Morgan Stanley International. Bloomer is close friends with Mike Lynch. He had been one of the defense witnesses at Lynch's trial. It seems that the party that ended in tragedy in Sicily was an opportunity to celebrate success at court.

Others missing are Bloomer's wife, Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah, attorney Chris Morvillo and his wife Nada Morvillo.

The Bayesian sailboat was a 56-meter technological jewel, but it was engulfed by a tornado that hit the Santa Flavia area, in the province of Palermo, at dawn on August 19. It is now submerged about 50 meters deep.

The 12 passengers and 10 crew members ended up in the water. 15 people were rescued, while the ship's cook - Ricardo Thomas - was found dead.

Among those who survived was Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares. With him also Charlotte Golunski, 35 years old. She managed to save her one-year-old daughter. Both are fine as is the child's father James Emsilie, 35. According to the woman, the whole drama was experienced in a few moments: "For two seconds I lost the little girl in the water, then immediately I hugged her again amid the fury of the waves. I held him tight, close to me, while the sea was stormy. Luckily, 11 of us managed to get on it.

According to some testimonies, the wind would have broken the mast of the yacht (75 meters of aluminum, the tallest in the world), this would have caused the ship to tilt and it would have quickly filled with water. Not far away was the Dutch sailing ship "Sir Robert Baden Powell" and it was the crew of this ship that intervened first to help the people who ended up in the water.

Karsten Börner, the commander of the Dutch ship, recounts those dramatic moments: “We were planning to go to the port of Arenella in Palermo, but a storm hit us and we tried to stay with the engines running. Then we realized that the boat next to us was no longer there. We saw a red flame coming from the boat area, so my first officer and I got into the tender and went to help: we found survivors, including a little girl. The alarm was raised, the coast guard units also arrived."

The Prosecutor's Office of Termini Imerese has opened an investigation. It will be necessary to understand how it was possible for the ship to sink in a few moments, while other vessels, even those nearby, did not suffer any damage.
