Bad weather with storms, rain and flooding has affected Western Greece for 24 hours, including the cities of Ioannina, Igoumenitsa, Patras and the island of Corfu.
A total of ten areas were hit by storms with strong winds, heavy rainfall and intense lightning discharges.
Civil Emergencies have sent warning messages to residents and state authorities have been put on high alert.
This is a strong and fast storm as its duration will be 48 hours, but meteorologists are ringing the "bell" for its intensity.
On Monday alone, more than 31,000 lightning strikes were recorded in West and North-West Greece.
According to the National Observatory of Athens, the largest amount of rain until 19:00 was recorded in Paxos with 45 millimeters, while it is emphasized that the storm had high electrical activity.
Bad weather is expected to hit Corfu for the second time in a few hours, with an 8-person team from Civil Emergencies urgently arriving on the island to reinforce the local fire service.
There are also problems with bad weather on the island of Othon, which has been left without electricity. At noon on Monday, moreover, the General Secretariat of Civil Defense sent an alert message to islanders, urging them to prepare for the extreme weather expected to hit the island by Tuesday morning.
Due to the heavy rain accompanied by lightning that fell earlier, water has burst from wells and flooded the streets while the center of Corfu town has been without power since 08:00 am.
In the north of the island a fire has broken out in Avliotes, possibly caused by lightning.
There were also problems at the airport with canceled flights and others taking off or landing late due to powerful lightning. The storm is expected to intensify in central and northern Corfu until the evening, with heavy rain.
Bad weather from Italy, accompanied by rain, hail and lightning, has also affected Patra. Even in Ioannina, the streets turned into rivers, with water flooding several houses, while roofs were ripped off and dozens of trees fell.
