A bar in Florence has been fined 1 thousand euros after a customer complained to the police about the expensive price of coffee.

"Ditta Artigianale" in Florence, Italy was fined on Monday for not placing the price list on the premises.

A customer called police after he got angry that the bar had asked him to pay 2 euros for a decaffeinated coffee.

According to Ditta Artigianale, the coffee in question came from a Mexican plantation and was 'prepared with special care by the bartender'.

In Italy a cup of espresso coffee costs around 1 euro, but many locals have increased prices this year.

The owner of Ditta Artigianale said he was "willing to pay for the mistake", but criticized the law in force and the fine imposed as he claims the price was published on the bar's digital menu.

"I think with all the things that are being served in bars these days, this law is so absurd and needs to be changed, otherwise 99.9 percent of bars and restaurants would be wrong," Francesco Sanapo said on Facebook.
