One of the judges who did not approve the sending of the first group of immigrants from Italy to Albania reported to the State Prosecutor's Office in Rome that she received death threats.

Silvia Albano is one of six judges in the Rome court's immigration unit who threw out the detention of 12 migrants, saying their countries of origin, Bangladesh and Egypt, could not be considered safe based on an October 4 court ruling European Court of Justice.

Albano is president of the left-wing faction of the judiciary Magistratura Democratica (Democratic Magistrate, MD).

"The campaign of contempt that was launched against the magistrates in Rome and in particular against Silvia Albano has contributed to the construction of a climate of contrast, hatred that finally led to serious threats to her safety and life", the MD emphasized in a note issued on Thursday.

The MoD also mentioned in the statement the fact that the three prosecutors in Palermo who received threats after demanding a six-year prison sentence for Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini on charges of hijacking the migrant ship, have been placed under special protection.

The Rome court's decision on Friday, which led to the return of migrants to Italy from the newly opened center in Albania, was criticized by members of the government, including Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, who described it as "abnormal".

Following the ruling, the Italian government on Monday passed a new decree listing 19 countries, including Egypt and Bangladesh, as safe, saying courts could not rule against it based on the October 4 European Court of Justice, which Friday's ruling was based.
