At least 30 people, including children, have been killed after an Israeli airstrike hit a school housing wounded and displaced Palestinians in Deir el-Balah, central Gaza.
Gaza's Ministry of Health announced that more than 100 people were injured after the airstrike that resulted in a real massacre in one of the most populated areas with displaced families.
The Israeli military said in a statement that it had targeted a "Hamas command and control center inside the Khadija school compound in central Gaza".
According to the army, it was suspected that the school was being used to launch attacks against the troops, while there was also a weapons depot inside.
According to representatives of the Palestinian organization that governs the Gaza Strip, the school where the attack was carried out was located in an underground tunnel, to ensure the safety of the students. The attack comes as the sides are closer than ever to a new ceasefire under a plan backed by the United States, brokered by Qatar and Egypt.
Meanwhile, the UN has announced that hundreds of Palestinians remain trapped east of Khan Younis amid intense fighting and rescue teams are unable to rescue them due to the denial of entry by the Israeli army.
