American newspaper: Putin seeks Donbas and Crimea, gives Ukraine Kherson and

The American media Wall Street Journal has reported that in the meeting he had with the American envoy Steve Witkoff, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a plan to immediately end the war in Ukraine.

According to what the American media reports, Putin has demanded that Russia be recognized full control over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions that make up the Donbas and that the territory of Crimea, a peninsula that Russia annexed in 2014, be legally recognized by the international community.

The plan envisaged by Putin, according to what the Wall Street Journal writes, is divided into two phases. Once Ukraine withdraws its troops from Donbas and recognizes the annexation of Crimea, then there will be a ceasefire where Russian and Ukrainian forces will stop fighting on the current front lines in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, but also in the Donbas region which Russia seeks to take completely.

In the final peace agreement, according to what the Wall Street Journal writes, Russia is expected to cede parts of the occupied territories in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia to Ukraine, thus establishing peace through the exchange of territories.

According to reports from the Washington-based Institute for Basic War Studies, Russia currently controls 26% of the territory in the Kherson Region as well as more than 70% of the Zaporizhzhia region.

As for the Donbas region that includes Donetsk and Luhansk, Russia controls over 80% of it according to the latest data from the Institute for War Studies. This plan of Vladimir Putin, which the Russian Head of State is expected to discuss with the US President at Friday's meeting, according to what the Wall Street Journal writes, is expected to face the skepticism of Europe and Ukraine, who will consider this move by Moscow as an attempt by Russia to consolidate territorial gains and escape the pressure of international sanctions.
