Finland and Sweden in NATO, Erdogan refuses: Turkey does not repeat the mistake
Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has frozen NATO allies, saying "it is not in favor of Finland and Sweden joining NATO."

According to "Daily Sabah", the Turkish president claims that the two countries have terrorist organizations inside them.

"At the moment we are following the developments regarding Sweden and Finland, but we do not have positive attitudes, because in the past the previous Turkish governments made a mistake with the membership of Greece and you know the current position of Greece against Turkey, which is supported by NATO. ", Said Erdogan.

"Like Turkey, we do not want to repeat similar mistakes. Moreover, Scandinavian countries are hostels to terrorist organizations. Members of the Kurdish People's Party and the People's Revolutionary Liberation Party are hiding in Sweden and the Netherlands, and are even MPs in several countries. "At this point, it is not possible for us to have a positive view," Erdogan said.

While the Turkish government has not yet taken a formal position on the issue, on the other hand Helsinki and Stockholm have not yet formalized their application for NATO membership.

While Ankara has always had a good relationship with Finland, with Sweden there have been clashes in the past because of the support that Stockholm has given to the Syrian Kurds of Ypg.

Turkey has always been a formal supporter of enlargement, since joining the military alliance 70 years ago. Any decision to admit a new member state must be adopted unanimously by all states.
