Donald Trump promises $5,000 to every American if Republicans win midterm

Donald Trump has promised that every adult citizen in the United States will receive $5,000 if Republicans manage to retain control of the House of Representatives and Senate in the midterm elections.

The statement was made during a marathon speech at the first Republican convention for the midterm elections, held in Dallas. For almost two hours, the president attacked Democrats, whom he described as "radicals", while also defending the US war with Iran, writes The Guardian.

"If the Republicans win, you win with us and get $5,000," Trump declared to the crowd.

The proposal would cost more than $1 trillion, immediately raising major questions about how it would be financed and the ethical aspects of such a promise.

Trump urged voters to consider him part of the race, even though his name will not be on the ballot in the midterm elections. "Pretend I'm on the ballot," he told supporters.

The president also claimed that his second term had been "the most successful two years in the history of the presidency," both financially and in other respects.

However, he focused most of the speech on warnings about what, according to him, would happen if Democrats gained control of the House of Representatives or the Senate during the last two years of his term.

"There's a little, crazy, sick cloud over our country," Trump said, adding: "We will defeat communism in America."

Republicans are hoping that holding the unusual convention will energize the party ahead of the November election. However, Trump continues to face low approval ratings in the polls, while several Republican candidates in competitive areas have decided not to attend the event.

Trump made it clear that he believes he himself will be the deciding factor in the November election.
“If we lose, you lose the border, you lose the tax cuts, you lose your security and you lose your wealth,” he said.

During the speech, Trump also talked about war with Iran. He warned Tehran "not to do the smart thing," otherwise, he said, the US "will have to hit them very hard."

The president also spoke about the economic consequences of rising oil prices. He confessed that he had told his economic advisers that the US should start the conflict because, according to him, Iran was "two, maybe three weeks away" from producing a nuclear weapon.
