United States President Donald Trump has renewed his call for joint international action to protect the Strait of Hormuz, urging countries that depend on this strategic corridor to join forces against Iranian efforts to close it.

Just hours after saying he hoped the United Kingdom, China and other countries would send warships to the region, Trump stressed that "countries that get oil through the Strait of Hormuz should take care of that passage."

He stated that the US has "completely defeated and destroyed Iran, both militarily, economically and in every other way," underlining that Washington is ready to assist and coordinate with other countries to ensure a swift and smooth process.

“This should have always been a team effort, and now it will be – it will unite the world towards Harmony, Security and Eternal Peace,” Trump said.

The US president's call comes at a time when tensions in the Persian Gulf region remain high, while the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil transport corridors, is seen as a key point for global energy security.
