Like every parent in Valencia that day, Victor Matías rushed to pick up the children from school and "gather" at home, while his wife had to take a second shift at work despite flood warnings.
He picked up his sons, Izan , 5, and Rubén , from school, not thinking that only a short time later, the floodwaters would take them from their hands, making them one of the 90 people who are still missing as consequence of the floods in Valencia.
The BBC went to the home of the two minors, while also talking to the neighbors to get details of what happened, a story that has become known throughout Spain, as the two brothers are now known as the "Lost Famous".
It seems that it was a truck parked near the house that was swept away by the flow of water and collided with the house and caused the tragedy.
After the wall broke, the flow of water took the father and the two sons, and despite his efforts to keep the children together, the flow of water took them from their hands.
"I tried to hold them in my hands, but the water got to me", quotes one of the neighbors Victor Matías.
Victor was found about four hours later, more than 200 meters away, clinging to a tree.
His mother – the boys' grandmother – discovered that Victor was about to jump into the water and surrender to his fate, but then stopped and thought he couldn't leave his wife alone.
The entire neighborhood in La Curra, despite the pain of the devastation, began searching for the two minors as soon as the water receded sufficiently.
But where to start? Cars, bricks, bed frames had been carried hundreds of meters from where they once stood. A team of firefighters from Mallorca and then Civil Defense volunteers from the island of Ibiza also came and searched the most difficult to reach areas. Despite nearly two weeks of intensive daily searches, the brothers were not found.
Family members confess that the lives of the boys' parents have already turned to dust, while the trauma they are experiencing is strong.
The grandmother says that the boys' father sleeps with the children's blanket in his arms, as it is the only way he can feel them close.
