Nine former ministers, among them Albanians in Montenegro, are under investigation by the Special Prosecutor's Office for abuse of office, as they are suspected of abusing funds for the allocation of housing and housing loans.
Prosecutor Vukas Radoniq said yesterday that the suspects, nine former ministers and three other people, are accused of causing damage to the state of 2.9 million euros.
Among the accused are MPs Predrag Boshkovic, Dragica Sekulic and Suzana Pribilovic from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and Ivan Brajovic and Damir Shehovic from the Social Democrats, reports Radio Evropa e Lire.
Ex-ministers Budimir Shegrt, Suad Numanović and Sanja Vlahović from the DPS and Osman Nurković from the Bosnian Party are also accused of abuse of office.
Montenegro's Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic, who sued senior officials in mid-2022, commented on the developments and said he hoped the state would seek compensation.
"I regret that they gave 500 apartments to people who politically damaged Montenegro with billions of euros", he said.
The accused ministers were part of the Governmental Commission for Housing Affairs, which allegedly allocated apartments to other high-ranking officials, including MPs, judges and prosecutors.
According to the prosecution, they are accused of having given loans for the improvement of living conditions above the estimated amount of up to 15 thousand euros and without assessment by the expert committee of the then Property Administration.
In some cases, the Commission has granted loans in the amount of 40,000 euros, although the officials, in their requests for solving their housing needs, had asked for 30,000 euros.
"Obviously, exceeding the submitted requirements is contrary to the Law on administrative procedure and the judicial practice of the Administrative Court of Montenegro", said prosecutor Radoniq in the press release.
One such case is that of the former president of the Supreme Court, Vesna Medenica, who asked for 30,000 euros in aid, while the Commission decided to give her 10,000 euros more.
