Vittorio Sgarbi, the Minister of Culture in the new Italian government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stunned those present at a conference in Rome, as he began to refer to women in derogatory terms and praised his genital organ.
The conference was held last month at the Italian capital's national museum of contemporary art, but footage of Sgarb's sexist comments has only just emerged.
The 71-year-old has been called to resign after declaring in the viral video that he has slept with 1,500 women.
“I don't have a penis calculator, so I don't know. I can estimate an average of three a month and when I was active it was even nine or twelve a month. So 1500, the minimum", he asserted.
Sgarbi has also caused outrage after using misogynistic language during his speech at the art gallery.
In the video, he boasts that he's slept with 9 women in a month and praises his penis as a smart organ, but admitted that he didn't know the exact number of women he dates because he doesn't have a penis sizer.
At one point, Sgarbi receives a phone call on stage and he bursts out: "Who are you?". The new minister also claimed that Berlusconi, who died just over a week before the incident, had slept with 'less than 100 women' in his life, something Sgarbi described as a tragedy.
The release of the 45-minute long video by La Repubblica drew criticism from Italian politicians, with Italy's opposition Five Star party calling for Sgarb's resignation from government.
They said his comments were sexist, while centrist political leader Carlo Calenda called Sgarbi a 'disgrace'.
