The latest incident from the US comes amid an already tense climate due to the US administration's tough measures against immigration.

Protests that erupted in the city of Minneapolis quickly escalated into clashes with federal agents.

A 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and US citizen was shot and killed by a federal agent of ICE, the immigration agency.

The victim is Alex Pretty .

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara confirmed the incident, saying the victim was a legal gun owner with a valid permit. This is the third incident involving ICE agents in Minneapolis in January.

On January 7, 37-year-old Renee Good , a mother of three, was shot dead by multiple gunshots without police assistance, sparking protests across the country.

On January 15, an agent shot a Venezuelan migrant in the leg during what authorities described as a "targeted street stop."
