Federal agents kill another person in Minneapolis

Minneapolis city authorities held a press conference following a serious incident where one person lost their life during a clash with federal immigration agents.

The event has caused strong political reactions and protests on the ground.

According to Minneapolis Police, the person shot to death was a male, a resident of the city and believed to have been a U.S. citizen. His age was initially reported differently by various sources, but Police Chief Brian O'Hara stated that he was 37 years old.

He added that the person was a legal possessor of a firearm and that his only known contact with law enforcement had been for minor administrative matters, related to parking fines.

The incident occurred during an operation by federal agents. The US Department of Homeland Security said officers were conducting a targeted operation against a person wanted for a violent offense when an armed individual approached them and, according to them, violently resisted attempts to disarm them.

In this context, an agent opened fire, causing his death on the spot, despite medical assistance.

After the incident, protests broke out in the area where the shooting took place.

Authorities reported clashes between law enforcement and protesters, while tear gas was also used to disperse the crowd.

Police declared the area an "unlawful assembly" and urged residents to leave, describing the situation as unstable. Two small fires were also reported, which were extinguished by emergency services.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey reacted sharply to federal immigration operations, calling them an "invasion" and calling on the US President to intervene and stop these actions.

"How many more Americans have to die or be injured for this to end?" he declared, adding that such operations are not increasing security in the city.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also expressed outrage, demanding the immediate withdrawal of federal agents from the state.

Meanwhile, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar described the event as shocking and accused the federal administration of using force against citizens.

Federal authorities, including the heads of ICE and Border Patrol, are expected to hold a separate press conference to provide details on the operation and the circumstances of the incident. The investigation into the incident continues, while the situation in Minneapolis remains tense.
