US Vice President JD Vance has just spoken out about the war in Ukraine, warning that if Russia is not "willing to engage", then "ultimately, the US has to say this is not our war".
He added that Vladimir Putin - who is expected to speak with Donald Trump in the coming minutes - "doesn't seem to know" how to get out of the war.
"We understand that there is a small impasse here," he told reporters as he prepared to leave Italy after his meeting with Pope Leo XIV.
"And I think the president will say to President Putin: 'Listen, are you serious? Are you honest about this?'" he said.
