A serious accident rocked central Stockholm on Friday afternoon when a bus crashed into a bus stop near the University of Technology in the Ostermalm neighborhood. The incident occurred at around 3:24 p.m., during rush hour, causing chaos and panic in the area.
According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, several people were injured, while police later confirmed that there were also casualties.
However, authorities have not yet given exact figures on the number of dead or injured.
Swedish police announced that the case is being investigated as manslaughter, while the bus driver has been detained for questioning. "We are investigating the circumstances and what happened," said police spokeswoman Nadya Norton.

Oscar Davila, operations manager for Stockholm's rescue service, confirmed that several people were injured, some of them in serious condition. Meanwhile, Stockholm region press officer Michelle Marcher said five people were injured, two of them in serious condition and were immediately taken to hospital.
A witness who lives near the scene said she heard several explosions before seeing smoke and a small explosion at the scene of the accident. "It was scary. There were several explosions one after the other, not just one," she told local media.
The incident has affected several bus lines while authorities announced the closure of part of the busy Valhallavägen road, causing long queues.
Stockholm Transport spokeswoman Sophie Gunnarsson confirmed that the bus involved in the accident belonged to the Norrtalje line and that the incident is being treated as very serious. Meanwhile, the Östra station area remains blocked while police and rescue teams continue their investigations and work to normalize the situation.
