British activist Ruth Herbert is completing a six-and-a-half-month walk from London to Istanbul to raise funds for medical aid for Palestinians.
Setting off from her home in Arnside on May 2, 2025, the 52-year-old passed through 12 countries, including France, Switzerland, Italy, Albania and Greece, before arriving in Turkey.
She calls this journey "The Great March for Palestine" and has so far raised around 50,000 pounds.
"I had the idea for the march as a fundraising event," Herbert said, adding that he was motivated by a desire to help Palestinians and do something more than just participate in protests.
She supports the charity "Medical Aid for Palestinians" and wants to meet people in Europe and beyond who share the same values.
Herbert emphasized that every small action matters.
"When we all do something, we create a wave together. It makes people feel connected and supported," she said.
According to her, assistance and resistance must be long-term, because any change requires time and determination.
"Humanity is being tested with Palestine. We cannot stand by and watch as people are destroyed and displaced from their homes. We must continue to fight for justice," the activist added, emphasizing the need for peace and justice for Palestine.
She described the journey as physically challenging, but also a source of pride.
Along the way, Herbert has met many different people and witnessed acts of generosity, including the provision of free meals and accommodation.
Herbert said returning home will be a big change after six months on the road, but she plans to travel by train to reflect on her achievements before meeting her family in London.
