A serious incident occurred this Thursday at the Temple Israel synagogue, about 25 miles northwest of Detroit, where a suspect crashed a car into the building and confronted security forces.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was killed in the exchange of fire between police forces, while there are no reports of other injuries.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that thanks to security measures, students and school staff inside the complex were safely evacuated.

"The synagogue was prepared and security reacted immediately, neutralizing the threat," he said, according to CNN.

FBI and ATF agents are at the scene.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the incident is being treated as a possible "vehicle and firearm attack" situation.

According to American media, the suspect had a rifle with him and after hitting the building with a vehicle, he was confronted by synagogue guards who opened fire on him.

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident, according to a statement from White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.

This incident comes at a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise globally, especially against the backdrop of conflicts in the Middle East.

The Anti-Defamation League has warned of an increase in attacks on Jewish communities, while religious institutions and Jewish schools in the US have significantly strengthened security measures.

Sheriff Bouchard announced that there will be an increased security presence at all Jewish institutions in the West Bloomfield area, while Michigan State Police have also increased patrols at other places of worship.
